Jessie was surprised he was telling all of this to her. Usually guys try to act all macho, and even if they aren’t they don’t admit it. The fact that he did admit it was really sweet.”Really? Well, mass murders scare me because there are people like that out there. The others scare me too, but I don’t have a rational reason for that.”

Jessie looked around the room. ”You really thinks there’s a ghost in here? How do you know?” It was still thundering outside and the house was pretty dark and creaked. Jessie was starting to get scared again.

“It is scary, knowing that they’re actually out there, but it doesn’t happen that often. I believe in fate, too, which probably helps. Whatever happens, happens for a reason, you know?” He smiled at her, shrugging slightly. He liked going with the punches and seeing what would happen.

Matt could tell she was starting to get scared. “There probably isn’t. I was kidding. And if there is, apparently salt and shit makes them go away.”

I'm great, thanks! Have you ever been in the gardens late at night, though? Definitely worth the goosebumps.

If some mass murderer tries to get you, you can just beat them up.” She always thought that guys never got scared by these kind of things.

“That’s true, but predictable is boring.” He smiled at her, shifting as well so each of their bodies were towards each other. “I’m serious. Mass murders don’t scare me at all, or zombies, or werewolves or anything like that. Just ghosts. They’re freaky and they actually exist. There’s probably one in the house now.”

Jessie looked up at him, “He chopped her up? I thought the main characters always got away.” She said. ”I’m glad I didn’t watch that then.” She suddenly realized how close she was to him. She blushed and pulled away quickly. ”Yeah I guess I shouldn’t. I didn’t mean to grab onto you like that.” She looked down and played with the hem of her shirt. Why do I always make things awkward? She thought as she looked back up at him.

“That’s lame. The plot is too predictable then.” He smiled at her, lifting his arm off of her and putting it along the back of the couch. “It’s fine, I’ve had those moments myself. I almost cried in Paranormal Activity 3, but I’m a man, so I never said that.”

“Just tell me what happens, okay? I don’t want to watch,” She said not looking up. She knew she should be embarrassed, but she was too scared of the movie to care. She could hear the girl screaming, and Jessie grabbed him tighter and tried to focus on something else. She focused on his steady breathing, blocking out all of the other sounds. She was glad he was there, even if she was embarrassing herself. She would have been terrified if she was alone.

“He chopped her up, basically, and then they lived happily ever after in the after life, which would be terrifying because ghosts are not okay.” He replied, shutting the movie off. It was pretty much over and it was scaring her too much to let it continue. “You are not allowed to watch horror movies anymore, all right?”

In a desperate attempt to find something to do, Matt and Katherine had decided to take a dip in the private pool in the Eovi mansion. Although there was quite a bit to do in their current residence, at times it was hard to choose. After a while, it all seemed so redundant.

He pulled on his swim trunks, grabbed a towel and headed down to the pool. It wasn’t one of those lame ones that only went to seven feet. This one went to fifteen, which impressed him. He hated shallower pools - being fix foot was probably one of the reasons for that.

“Hey,” He said when he entered. Katherine was already in there. “You beat me down.”

Jessie bit her lip, embarrassed. She was already scared of this movie and nothing had happened. She’s going to make a fool of herself when something actually scary happens.

They sat in silence for a while, watching the movie. Matt was totally wrong. This is super scary, Jessie thought as she grabbed the blanket even tighter. The killer was stalking the main girl and she hadn’t seen her yet. He was coming closer to her, and the movie was playing scary music, building the suspense. When the killer jumped out in front of her, Jessie let out small squeak and grabbed onto Matt without thinking, hiding her face in his shoulder.

Matt tried not to chuckle when he noticed Jessie grabbing the blanket. He’d seen this movie in theaters with a couple of friends a few years back. He’d always found it funny, but his reaction to movies that didn’t have ghosts was always like that. If it had been Paranormal Activity or anything like it, he’d likely be freaking out. Ghosts was his irrational fear, and damn, he believed in them more than anything proven to be real.

“It’s okay,” he murmured when Jessie grabbed him, wrapping an arm around her, “It’s completely staged and scripted. Nothing like this actually happens,” And it didn’t, that was he always told himself when movies freaked him out.

“No, you haven’t missed much.” Jessie replied without taking her eyes from the screen. ”Nothings really happened yet. Basically, this group of student went on a camping trip for school and weird stuff’s been happening. This mysterious guy almost killed that kid, but he got away.” Jessie shifted on the couch. She wasn’t that comfortable watching movies alone with Matt. She always got really scared, and she was afraid Matt would make fun of her. She stole a look over at him. He seemed nice enough, but still sitting in the dark with him was weird. She was acutely aware of his movements, and wondered if he was noticing hers too.

“Well it can’t be that scary then,” He said, slightly amused, “If no one’s died in the first twenty minutes you know it isn’t that frightening.” He looked over at Jessie while he spoke. He wasn’t that interested in the remake of Scream, even though it wasn’t that, but all horror movies basically had the same plot line. He would prefer to talk to her, but this wasn’t the best opportunity. Jessie was beautiful, but she wasn’t like the other girls in the house. Hailey and Nicole were spoiled super bitches, for the most part, Katherine was awesome, Daisy too moody and Addie too… odd, not that he disliked any of them; Jessie was just unique in contrast, though none of them paled next to each other.

Jessie sat curled up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn in her lap, watching a scary movie. She normally wasn’t one for scary movies, but some of the girls wanted to watch it, so she agreed. They had left about ten minutes ago to go to the spa, but Jessie stayed to finish the movie. And it was a lot scarier alone.

This particular one was your typical teenagers-camp-out-and-get-picked-off-one-by-one movie, and the first victim was about to get killed by a mysterious figure. Jessie but her lip and set the popcorn off to the side, grabbing the blanket and hugging it close to her chest. The mysterious figure was just reaching out to snatch the boy, when she saw a shadowed figure come into her view. She let out a tiny squeak and jumped a little when he started talking. Seeing that it was only Matt, she put her hand on her heart, willing it to slow down. ”Oh it’s just you! You scared me! Yeah sure you can watch. I’m not that far into it.” She replied, referring to the movie. She scooted over to make room for him and passed him the popcorn. ”You want any?”

Matt couldn’t help but laugh at Jessie’s reaction to his appearance. Girls while watching horror movies were always hilarious, in his opinion. They were just so easily frightened, not that he judged. “I’d love some,” He said, reaching over and taking a handful of popcorn. “So, what’s the movie about? Have I missed much besides some of the killing?”

The noise of the tv was echoing through the stairway Matt decended. He could see the light against the wall too, though he couldn’t figure out what it was. By the sounds of it, it was either a horror movie or an action one, but with the screams, he was betting on the ladder.

Glancing to his left, he could see that it was in fact a horror movie. That was his favorite genre, like the typical tough guy he wasn’t. He walked into the kitchen and grabbed two chocolate bars and then went back into the living room. “Hey,” He said to Jessie, making a point not to sneak up on her, “I brought you this. Mind if I watch with you?”
